About Margie Perry
I grew up in Chalfont, PA and have lived in Lahaska,PA since 1988. I taught at Buckingham Elementary in the Central Bucks School District for thirty-three years and retired in 2006 to be able to spend more time devoted to painting.
I didn’t start painting until 1999 when I was 48. After my husband died in 1998, I decided to take a year off from teaching; I took piano lessons, started to paint, and with my two kids, who were 7 and 11 at the time, travelled extensively. Most of my early paintings were of places we had visited on our trips. As we reinvented ourselves to being a family of three, I was reinventing myself as well. I am basically self-taught, having had no formal training, and I find that the more I paint, the more I discover about what I can do. I work primarily from photographs and work in both oil and acrylic.
Much of my work is inspired by the surrounding Bucks County countryside. As I am driving around this area, doing day-to-day things, I see pictures just waiting to be painted. I’m so glad I discovered what I wanted to do for the second half of my life!!
